Dear K-207 Families,
I hope those of you who attended the Winter Fail this past weekend had a lovely time!
I would love to go over a few things with our class community.
It is with great pride that I inform you that Class K-207 was the winner of the Penny Harvest competition. We share this prize with our Fourth Grade Buddies – Class 4-304. Our class alone brought in 256 pounds of pennies, which equals about $425.00 to give to charity. Together with Class 4-304, we brought in over 300 pounds of pennies. While everyone in our class contributed to the penny harvest very generously, I must thank Antonio and his wonderful family for bringing in over and beyond the amount of pennies that – I believe – has never been done before. I could not even lift the bags that Antonio brought in!!! All this is for a very good cause and our class benefits not only from getting a pizza party but we get to choose what charity the money collected in the school goes to. Thank you to all.
The kindergarten classes went this week to the theater to see Alice in Wonderland performed at the College of Staten Island. I think the children enjoyed it very much. I was a little concerned about the big puppets but the children just laughed about them when we returned to our classroom. Thank you to all the parents and caregivers who attended. The children just love when their parents and caregivers come with us on our trips.
In other exciting news we finished up our unit on Writing Like Scientists and the children’s published books and these pieces are currently on display outside the classroom later this week.
Here is the news for the coming the weeks!
• K-207 visits the Brooklyn Public Library’s KIDSMOBILE:
The Brooklyn Public Library KidsMobile will be visiting P.S. 154 the week of December 14-18. Our class will have the opportunity to visit the Mobile on Wednesday, December 16th at 9:00 a.m. As part of the visit, there will be a short read aloud or puppet show, a tour of the Mobile and the children will have time to browse and checkout books. My goal is for each child in our class to be able to check out books during this special visit!
In order for a child to check-out books s/he must have either:
- a green library card or a library card application signed by a parent.
- If your child already has a library card: By Monday, December 14th, please send it to me via your child’s homework folder in a sealed envelope with your child’s name written outside. If your child already has a green library card, do not reapply.
- If your child does not yet have a Brooklyn Public Library Card: Please complete the application (which will be sent home on Friday, December 11th) thoroughly and return it to me no later than Monday, December 14th.
K-207 WINTER CELEBRATION: Wednesday, December 23rd at 9:00 a.m.
• To celebrate the festive season, I hope you all will join us in the classroom for a bit of breakfast and a casual concert/sing-along, with the children. As the time nears, I hope that we can coordinate who brings what to the celebration.
While I know how difficult it can be for parents with jobs outside the home to join us in the classroom, if you have been wondering when it would be best to arrange your schedule to join your child in K-207, this will likely be the morning you won’t want to miss! The children will be leading us in song to celebrate the season! I hope each child can have at least one visitor there for them. (If not a parent, then another family member or caregiver. Older siblings are welcome too!)
WE ARE ALSO LOOKING FORWARD TO THE RETURN OF OUR GOOD FRIEND AND CLASSMATE - SASHA - FROM RUSSIA. SHE WILL BE RETURNING WITH HER NEW BROTHER!!! WE HAVE MISSED HER SO MUCH AND LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING ALL THE GREAT STORIES THAT WE ARE SURE SHE HAS TO TELL.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS:
o Wednesday, December 16th at 9:00 a.m. - K-207 Visits the Brooklyn KidsMobile!
o Wednesday, December 23rd, K-207 Winter Celebration Join us in the classroom at 9:00 a.m. for a special holiday party. The children will lead us in singing songs for the season!

Thank you for all your wonderful support! If you have any questions you can email, leave a message for me by calling the main office, or send me a note in your child’s homework folder.
Fondly
Ms. Graham
